Amber + Jero’s Highlights

Amber and Jeronimo are like, amazing folks. Seriously. Amber is one of the sweetest, most considerate people I’ve ever met. And Jero is the most kind hearted, extreme sports addicted, dude we’ve come across. It’s no wonder why they make a perfect match. Here are the highlights from the two days of their wedding celebration, including two ceremonies. Oh and make sure you watch til the end so you can see the how EPIC their reception was.

When I think about our experience with Amber and Jeronimo, I’m reminded of exactly how I wanted to make films with Sandbox Love. We got to hang out with Amber and Jero for the whole week before their wedding. We must have driven between Playa Del Carmen and Cancun a bajillion times, but it was all totally worth it. We got to go swimming with them, hang out on the beach, drink some cerveza’s, and really enjoy each other’s company. By the time their wedding day arrived, we were more than just a vendor at their wedding. We were pals:)

Major props to Vitalie and Shaun for coming down to Mexico with me. The weddings took place at a few different resorts in the Playa Del Carmen area; the El Dorado being the main one. I have so much more to say about this amazing trip, but I’m going to save it for the post of Amber and Jero’s next film which is their Signature Film. It’s astonishing.

Caitlin + Ben “Fly Safe Please.”

First up in a series of posts is a film we made for Caitlin and Ben. When Caitlin emailed me their story, I got chills. Instantly, ideas were popping into my mind. I can’t wait for everyone to see this piece!

A couple reasons why this shoot was awesome… First, Caitlin and Ben were so much fun to hang out with. To see them together, taking those first few steps of getting reacquainted, kept me smiling all day. Second, I was listening to Pandora on my iphone during the Fly In and just as Ben was getting out of his jet, the most beautiful song came on. When they were embracing for the first time in 7 months, the moment and the music moved me to tears. Good thing I was rockin my giant aviators to hide my eyes… had to look tough in front of all the fighter pilots.

Another reason was that the moment we were capturing had immense meaning. Both Caitlin and Ben had a hard time deciding which day was anticipated more; their wedding or the Fly In. That’s pretty big considering how much goes into a wedding. But living without your loved one for soooo long makes the moment you get him or her back a pretty important memory to have captured.

Huge thanks to Shaun for flying out to Virginia Beach with me. From a filmmaking standpoint, we put a lot of thought into the visuals. You can see a lot of Blue and Gold in the second half of the film to give it a feeling of Navy pride. You’ll also see that we incorporated the sky into MANY of our shots. Aside from the whole pilot theme, I did this as a way to keep reminding the viewers how big the world is. Just IMAGINE how big the world must have felt when Ben was on the other side of the world. Also, for the intimate moments of their first embrace, we go from that very wide view to a very close view. A way to make that first contact feel so big. Because if you ask Caitlin or Ben, that moment was huge.

I’m delighted with this film and am so excited for the kinds of stories we will get to tell in the future. Welcome home Sunliners.

Coming Soon!

Hello Sandbox Lovlies! We know you’ve missed us and we’ve missed you too! As you know, there is a little thing called “Wedding Season” and we’re pretty much getting into the middle of it! That means we’ve shot some AMAZING weddings so far this year and have a bunch of them coming up! Which means more wonderful stories for y’all to check out! Here is a sneak peek at what we have coming up!

Get Ready! Because this year is going to be packed with beautiful locations, touching moments, and lots and lots of style. That’s how we roll.

Alex + Jane “A Picture of Love”

You guys have to watch Alex and Jane’s wedding. It’s stunning. It’s packed with great shots, beautiful people, endearing moments, and an epic location.

The main theme that kept coming up during their wedding was this idea of, “What does love look like?” “How do we envision it for ourselves and for others we know?” I thought this was a perfect frame for their wedding film. Alex and Jane have known each other for years, and started off as friends. But as the years went on, their pictures of what love looks like started to fill in for them. Much like the final image of the film.

One way we tried to give this a different visual look than our other films was to film reflections more than usual. There are a lot of shots in here where the footage is filmed using a mirror, or reflections off the shiny floor. We also gave the footage at the end of the film a different color treatment than we normally do. If you look closely, you’ll see a lot of gold and green at the end. The different hues give it such an epic feel.

San Francisco City Hall is one of the most beautiful buildings I have ever been in. It’s loaded with intricate details on the walls and small nooks for shooting. We’re siked at how the venue came out. The tea ceremony was was also a ton of fun… LOVED Jane’s enthusiasm during it. It was definitely a good opportunity to capture so many family members smiling.

A huge shout out to Brittani from Dream A Little Dream Events. She and her team knocked this one out of the park. I remember thinking how on top of everything they were, and how they helped us with getting everything we needed.

My Favorite Moment: I looove their first look. When Jane can barely hold it together before seeing Alex; what a real moment that is! And of course her reaction to seeing him when he turns around is priceless. Also, I love the dancing sequence at the end! I can’t wait to give them their DVD’s with the amazing amazing amazing song performed by Jane’s bridesmaid. Maybe we’ll post that on Facebook for you guys to check out!

Hope you enjoyed the film!

Kathryn + Ryan “It’s All Open For Us”

I’ve been dying to post this for everyone to see! When I first met with Kathryn and Ryan and saw how they communicated, I knew we were going to make an amazing wedding film. Maybe it’s their abundant charisma. Maybe it’s the way they looked at each other and could finish the other’s sentences. Whatever it was, I could tell it was true love.  Enjoy.

Kathryn and Ryan’s wedding was one of those weddings where you’re just smiling the whole time. From the beautiful moments on the front porch to the candlelit ceremony to the paper hats at the end of the night. I just remember thinking, “Yes, that’s a moment.  There’s another one. And another!” A perfect wedding. And the thing was, the wedding was SO them.

If you don’t know, Kathryn runs the popular wedding blog, Snippet and Ink.  As someone who is as involved in the wedding world as she is, you can bet she and Ryan tailored everything about their wedding day to fit their story, style, and love.  So we tailored their film to fit them as well.  We drew our inspiration from the locations of Cavallo Point and the Presidio.  From where they’re from and where they’ve been.  From the style of the the vintage taxi they hop into.    And from the underlying theme of their love; that no matter where they are… they are at home with each other.

I’m sure you can tell that we went with a homey/folky kind of feel with their film.  When Kathryn gave me a CD of music that inspired her, it clicked.  First, almost all of her songs were about traveling with a loved one, or because of a loved one.  As Ryan says, it’s a journey that they’re on together.  It’s that open road of potential for any life they choose to make.  And as long as they’re together, it’s everything they’ll ever need.

Oh, and my favorite moment is when Kathryn looks out through the window and sees Ryan smoking the cigars and catches his eye.  I mean, are you kidding me?  To catch a moment like that in the middle of a wedding reception.  You couldn’t stage that.  Make sure you catch it:)

To find out more about Kathryn’s wedding, make sure to check out her blog post: Snippet and Ink. Also, check out our film on Martha Stewart Weddings!
